The Junior Open, sponsored by Calor Gas, was held on Friday 25th July 2008. The weather was good so a good score was on the cards - and we were not disappointed. The best Net Score on the day was from Bellshill member Chris Kelso who scored a Net 60 off an 18 handicap. The Ian Curwood Trophy, awarded for the best scratch score, went to Fraser McNeill of Eastwood Golf Club. Fraser shot an excellent scratch 67. He plays off 6, but not for long.

The CSS for the competition was 68.

Hopefully everyone enjoyed the golf and our thanks to our sponsor, Calor Gas, and to all who helped out on the day.

Orbiston Salver

The Salver Open was played on Saturday 26th July 2008. Once again the weather looked favourably on BGC so, as with our Junior Open, a good score was expected. J J Smith held the lead for some time with a scratch 70 but J Whitelaw of Mouse Valley, one of the later starters, came in with an excellent scratch score of 67. Mr. Whitelaw plays of +1 and we can see why that is.

The handicap competition is split into two classes, Up To 9 and 10 - 18 handicaps. Both sections were won by Bellshill members, Sandy Strathearn taking the first class prize with a net 67 and Alex McLeish won the second class with an excellent net 63.

Congratulations to all our winners. We hope everyone enjoyed their day at Bellshill G.C.

New CONGU regulations state that, under certain conditions, a separate CSS is calculated for Home and Away players in Open competitions. The CSS for the Salver was:
