Orbiston Salver

Played on

23rd July 2011

Once again we have been lucky with the weather for our Salver Open with sun shining all day.

Taking advantage of the good weather John Ralston of Shotts Golf Club, winner of the trophy two years ago, took the early lead with a scratch 69. No one came close to this until our own Paul Burke, one of the afternoon starters, matched the 69. Paul had, unfortunately, bogeyed the last two holes and lost out on the trophy as John had the better back nine.

It wasn't all bad news for Paul as his net 67 took the First Class prize, again with a better back nine. In the Second Class it was another Bellshill winner with Stephen Murray, another afternoon starter, shooting an excellent scratch 75 for a net 65. It was a good afternoon for Bellshill with eight of the prizes going to our members.

Unfortunately, our winner was unable to attend the prizegiving so no picture this year.

Once again our thanks go to all involved in organising and running this competition. Congratulations to all our winners and we hope to see you all back next year.

Junior Open

Playing for the

Ian Curwood Trophy

Thursday 28th July 2011

Dominic Wins with Great Back 9

It had been looking like it would be excellent weather for the Junior Open with the sun shining all week. However, the clouds rolled in and the rain fell almost all day. Fortunately, it was not heavy enough to deter our ardent young golfers from playing the Open.

The home players monopolised the 16 - 18 age group with Scott Burke's 67 beating Chris Kelso to the top prize with a better back 9 and Jack Hickson only one shot back on 68.

Michael Deane, also of Bellshill, took the 14 - 16 age group top prize with a net 65. C Murray of Carnwath was top in the Under 14 section. Colville Park players took three of the six prizes in the two younger age groups.

And it was also a Colville Park player who took the top Prize. Dominic Dougan, who played from Bellshill before moving to Colville Park, shot an excellent scratch 69 to beat Chris Kelso by two shots. The highlight of Dominic's score was a -4 back 9. Congratulations to Dominic on a fine win.

Once again thanks to all our competitors for making this a successful day. And our thanks also go to all who helped organize the event.

The winner, Dominic Dougan, accepts the Ian Curwood Trophy

Scott Burke, winner of the 16 - 19 age group
